I know I was in France before this, and I should be keeping it all in order, but I just really wanted to get the post about the London Dr. Steel Toy Soldier invasion in my LJ RIGHT NOW because dammit, it was so COOL.
We didn't actually meet for the first time on the day of the invasion, but rather Baron Andrew and myself met Sgt. Brain and Sgt. Kato at the airport and went with them to the Travelodge they were staying at. Several other soldiers were staying there as well, and this is where I met Dutch Barracuda, General Duffel and several other soldiers for the first time. This was also the first time I met the Rigling twins, who I have been curious about for a long time, since I used to chat on and off with Sebastian.
It was like a reunion. People already knew each other even though they'd never met each other before. When CoffeePirate/Stirling arrived, he was tackled by about five people, because he's well loved. No one knew I was coming and I'm glad I managed to surprise some people X3 as well as meeting so many new ones.
After we dropped everyone's stuff off at the Travelodge, we decided to go out for drinks. We found a nearby pub and crashed in their outside area all together. The night was great fun and everyone had a fantastic time! I went to bed at a decent time though, because I knew what a big day it would be the next day...

In the photo, holding the OMGAMAZING flag, are Rey Del Mal and our wonderful Sgt. Kato.
Basically, we were to meet in Hyde Park at 11am and would then proceed all throughout London, spreading Dr. Steel love, cookies and propaganda. I was on time--well, early, actually--and the second one there. The first was a new member who didn't have anything on him identifying him as a TS, so it took a moment for me to pluck up the courage to ask. In fact, the other soldiers were 15 minutes LATE because they hadn't gone to bed on time and half of them had killer hangovers!!
With all the people we'd met up with the night before, and all the people who came just for the invasion, it was a bloody good turnout.

So much fun was had. Amongst other things we
went on a carousel, hung out
at Piccadilly Circus, checked how many Toy Soldiers we could
squeeze into phone booths, and handed out TONS of propaganda. We went into Hamley's, the world's largest toy store, and promptly (but politely) got asked to leave. We had a camerman filming the WHOLE thing, and he got some fantastic footage, so I can't wait to see that once it's finally released.
We got a LOT of interest from the public. Lots of people asked for the manifestos and asked us questions, and we were more than happy to answer them. All the photos are up on my
Facebook page if you want to see more of them.
During the day we stopped at a pub for lunch, and much to our delight, Dutch had a broadcast from the man himself! We all listened silently as Dr. Steel's transmission came through the speakers Dutch had brought along, thanking us for all our hard work, congratulating us, and I'm surprised that the cheer that went up after the transmission didn't bring the whole pub down around us. It was a truly spectacular afternoon.
I'd say the invasion was a success. We followed it with another evening of drinking, in which I drank WAY too much (cider and absinth, lawlz). On the upside, I had a twin at each arm stopping me from falling over as we walked. On the downside, I'm pretty sure I said some pretty embarrassing things, but since I don't remember any of them THEY DON'T COUNT. That's how it works, right?
The next couple of days were spent with the Baron, Duffil and the twins, doing general touristy stuffs, mainly hanging out at the fantastic markets that London has. One highlight was going to see Transformers 2 at the IMAX at midnight XD the Baron had left, but the twins and Duffil and I weren't ready to go back to our hostels/hotels just yet, so even though it was pouring with rain, we went. The £21 taxi fare back to my hostel was worth it XDD
The only downside about all of this is that I got to meet so many awesome people--and I miss them all so terribly. From the moment the group split at the end of the day I knew that I wouldn't see some of them again for a VERY long time. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.
But there's always the EuroDisney invasion next March...
